Craftsmanship
Our Process
Craftsmanship in Every Detail
Building a great staircase isn't just about materials — it's about the hands that shape them. Our workshop team brings decades of experience to every project, treating each piece like it's going in their own home.
Hand-Selected Lumber
Every board is inspected by hand for grain consistency, structural integrity, and natural beauty. We reject anything that doesn't meet our standards — roughly 30% of lumber we inspect.
Precision Milling
Each tread is milled to exact specifications using calibrated equipment. We hold tolerances to 1/32" to ensure perfect fit and alignment on your staircase.
Hand Sanding & Finishing
Progressive sanding from 80 to 220 grit creates a silk-smooth surface. Our professional-grade finish is applied in controlled conditions for a flawless, durable coat.
Quality Inspection
Before packaging, every piece goes through a final quality check. We inspect for surface imperfections, dimensional accuracy, and finish consistency.
Our Materials
Premium Hardwood Species
We source only the finest North American hardwoods. Each board is hand-selected for grain quality, consistency, and structural integrity.
Most PopularWhite Oak
The gold standard for stair treads. White oak is renowned for its durability, water resistance, and beautiful grain pattern with distinctive ray flecks. Its natural warmth complements both modern and traditional interiors.
- Janka Hardness: 1,360 lbf
- Density: 47 lbs/ft³
- Grain: Straight to interlocked

Red Oak
America's most beloved hardwood. Red oak delivers a bold, pronounced grain pattern with warm reddish undertones. It's an excellent choice for staircase renovations that demand a classic, timeless look.
- Janka Hardness: 1,290 lbf
- Density: 44 lbs/ft³
- Grain: Strong, pronounced

Hard Maple
The hardest of our three species, maple offers a clean, contemporary aesthetic with a fine, uniform grain. Its light color brightens spaces and takes stain beautifully for a custom finish.
- Janka Hardness: 1,450 lbf
- Density: 44 lbs/ft³
- Grain: Fine, uniform

Common Questions
Everything you need to know about our stair treads and custom staircase services. Can't find what you're looking for?
View All FAQsSolid hardwood treads are milled from a single piece of real wood — all the way through. Engineered wood is a thin layer of hardwood glued to plywood or MDF. Our treads are always 100% solid hardwood, which means they can be sanded and refinished multiple times over their lifetime. Engineered treads cannot.
Standard tread orders typically ship within 2–3 weeks from the date of order confirmation. Custom staircase projects vary based on complexity — usually 4–8 weeks from design approval to completion. We'll give you an accurate timeline during your consultation.
