Big-box treads are typically engineered wood with a thin veneer. Cheap upfront, but they chip, peel, and wear quickly. Ours are solid hardwood core-to-surface, hand-sanded to 220 grit, and finished with a hardwax oil that can be refreshed at home. Built to outlive the staircase they sit on.

Six weeks from order confirmation. Every tread is made to order in our Brooklyn shop — no warehouse, no stock SKUs. Quote turnaround is one business day.

Yes, anywhere in the continental US. Delivery is free within Manhattan and Brooklyn; elsewhere, shipping is calculated at checkout based on dimensions and destination.

Custom depths require individual pricing — substrate, joinery, and overhang all affect the cost. Select "Custom depth" in the configurator and we'll write you a quote within one business day.

In Manhattan and Brooklyn, yes — we work with a small set of trusted installers and can coordinate directly. Outside NYC, we ship to your installer of choice. Tread installation is typically a one-day job for an experienced finish carpenter.

Yes. Floating cantilevers, helical stairs, switchbacks, all-glass atriums — we've been doing this for four decades. Full custom is quote-only; start with an inquiry and share any drawings or references you have.

Because every tread is made to order at your exact specifications, they aren't returnable for preference reasons. Defective work is always our responsibility to replace, and we warranty the material for the life of the staircase.
